It is now a researched fact that wool quilts offer a more constant sleeping temperature and therefore more comfortable nights sleep, both winter and summer, than alternative quilts or duvets.

The reason is they keep your body at a more comfortable temperature than any alternative, is because of the ability of natural woollen bedding to keep you ‘cool when it’s hot’ and warm when it’s not’ a statement that is often followed by labelling them as ‘the worlds most natural thermostat’

Such strong claims about woollen quilts are not without good reason, the secret to their success is found within each of its woollen fibres. The fibres have a natural crimp to them and therefore they are able to trap small pockets of air around each fibre, it is this trapped air that allows a wool quilt to insulate your body from the cold, without the need for too much weight.

However, it’s the ability to maintain your body at an ideal sleeping temperature and NOT allowing your body to overheat, that really differentiates a wool quilt from other quilts or duvets. Man made quilts are unable to cope with the perspiration and heat that our bodies give off as we sleep, this causes a build up of humid conditions within our bed and this is one of the main reasons why sleepers overheat at night. However, a wool quilt will not allow you to overheat because the unique woollen fibres are able to absorb 30 times more perspiration than synthetic fibres, before releasing this excess vapour into the atmosphere. Their natural ability to ‘breathe’ not only stops the build up of humid, clammy conditions, but constantly maintain your sleeping environment giving you more comfortable conditions which ensure a less interrupted and deeper nights sleep.
