The History of the Blanket Trips and how Sleepcheaper paid a big part in the growth and delivery process

Having discovered the natural breathability and comfort of Merino wool bedding a British couple who were living in Spain started promoting the products to British hotel guests in the late 1980’s.

Holidaymakers would enjoy a free glass of wine whilst a demonstration of the products took place. At the end of the demonstration, guests had the opportunity to order products for delivery to the UK when they got home

The demonstrations (And free wine!) were very popular and the hoteliers started charging more and more for the use of the demonstration rooms!

To reduce the escalating hotel costs, they came up with the idea of taking the guests on an excursion to demonstrate the products and at the same time show people the Spain they had fallen in love with.

It was an immediate success and it was not long before the excursions earned the title ‘THE FREE BLANKET TRIP’ which has stuck ever since

Like all successful ideas, they were copied and several Spanish companies started running alternative Blanket Trips. It wasn’t long before most tour operators offered a FREE Blanket Trip to the guests as part of the official excursion program

Where did Sleepcheaper get involved?

Whilst the mattress and bedding promotion was carried out in European holiday destinations, many of the Spanish Blanket Trip companies required a UK company to source, stock and distribute the products.

The distribution business ran alongside our own mattress and bedding sales operation in the UK. With the growth of the internet, our online profile and the brand Sleepcheaper.co.uk was born. With the demise of the Blanket Trips in Spain and Europe Sleepchepaer is the only place you can still purchase many of those original Blanket Trip Brands!

At Sleepcheaper we have extensive knowledge of most of the many Blanket Trip companies, along with the range of mattresses and bedding products they previously or currently supply
