Tempur Mattress – The Facts

The material used in Tempur was originally developed
in the 1970s by NASA to improve the comfort and g-force
protection for astronauts. This application of the Tempur
material was achieved using small scale production techniques,
Large scale commercial production was not achieved until
1991.
Once large scale manufacturing was possible, the focus
moved towards a mattress which offered exceptional pressure
relief and comfort. The initial market places for the
Tempur mattress were hospitals, clinics and nursing homes.
However, it was not long before the Tempur mattress was
available to the general public following consumer demand
from around the world.
Tempur is a Visco-elastic temperature sensitive material
that moulds to your unique body shape. The material compresses
slowly, offering less counter pressure as your body weight
is distributed evenly across the entire mattress. When
the sleepers weight is removed, the Visco-elastic material
recovers slowly to its original shape.
From its original development back in the 1970s, Tempur
mattress material (Visco-elastic) has been used for many
applications. Operating tables - to offer pressure relief
and to maintain circulation, incubators - for premature
babies for pressure relief combined with softness and
comfort, mattresses for 24 hour care - protecting against
pressure sores and domestic mattresses and pillows - to
improve sleep along with easing back and neck problems.
The Tempur mattress was the forerunner for all Visco-elastic
or Memory Foam mattresses, and like many market leaders
has to compete in the open market place. Although Tempur
is still the most well know brand, modern manufacturing
methods and competitive pricing have given the consumer
much more choice. Whilst cheap European and Far East suppliers
offer lower quality products, there are some (particularly
British) manufacturers offering the same high quality
memory foam as Tempur at considerably lower prices. At sleepcheaper we offer a range of memory foam mattresses
dependant on the required size, depth, firmness, cover
and of course budget. Starting at just £249, the
sleepcheaper ‘Dreamer’ mattress offers unbeatable
value and comes with our industry renowned price promise.
